Tansmission dipstick leak

I think I found my elusive transmission leak after changing the pan gasket with the spendy one from the dealer. I picked up the o'ring today. Anything I need to know when replacing this? How much fluid will I lose when I pull the dipstick tube? Should I do it on a hill?

Thanks for the reply. Does the o'ring go on the dipstick, or in the transmission when you install it?

hi
it goes in a indentation on the dipstick tube .
you will see this when you remove the dipstick tube as the old o ring should be on the tube app 1/2 in from the end of tube .
dont use any sealer just a little trany fluid for lube on the new o ring so it slides in easiy .

Well I stopped the leak with the new o'ring. I went to put in the rubber plug to stop the flow of tranny fluid and it was too small and fell in the tranny pan (so I had to pull the pan too). After changing the pan gasket two times it was the Dipstick o'ring. If you have fluid on the bottom of you pan make sure you check the o'ring before you change your gasket.
