Tansmission Temp Gauge Sender Port

I just purchased another Isspro temp gauge and will be installing it in the transmission line. My other one took a dump. The other gauge was in the pan but I'm moving the new one to the hot line. I purchased the line from DieselManor and it already has the sender port in it. I was wondering if I need to change the fitting with one of the adapter bushings that came with the gauge. I'm not sure the sending unit will be far enough in the line without changing the fitting. Looking for some help from those of you who have already done this installation. Thanks.

Mine doesn't seem to protrude into the line/flow much at all, with the bushing to make it fit.

Still reads the temperature just fine.
I guess it's a slow enough flow that it flows into the fitting as it passes.

Thanks for the info Phox. When you screwed the sensor in did you put any sealant on the threads and if so, what kind? Also, should there be a seal between the sensor and the sender port?

The folks that installed it used teflon tape.
It started leaking soon thereafter.

I got some brown (crap, whats the name of that stuff, comes in a tube, old age brain farts) rated for gas/oil on the threads,
and it sealed it up good.
I think it's the same stuff used to seal the differential covers.

No other seal required.

It's Permatex #2 from any autoparts. Nasty stuff to get off your hands.
The port on the tranny line is 3/8", most senders are 1/8", you will need a bushing.

Thanks for the replies phox and Infidel. I'll get some of the Permatex the next time I get into town. I can thread the sender into the port but it seems to stick out quite a bit. The other bushing that came with the gauge is threaded further down and looks like it would allow the sensor to be deeper in the line and doesn't stick out as much. I think I'll try switching them and see what happens.

Infidel, where in Montana are you located? I grew up in Butte and moved to new Mexico to teach.
