Snow plow prep group and Shocks?

Many of the shock fitment charts I look at say "Do not use on models with optional Snow Plow Prep Package". Does anyone know what the difference is with the truck?

Anybody? I am interested in ordering the new R9000XL shocks for the truck but it says "Do not use on models with optional Snow Plow Prep Package" and my truck has this option:

AHD Snow Plow Prep - Heavy Duty $183.00
-Extra Duty Front Suspension
-Heavy duty transfer case

It's kind of a joke because with the Diesel you already get the HD transfer case. So my question is what's different in the front that even the Shock manufactures feel there shocks won't fit. Because I can't find it, I have looked on trucks with and without the Prep group and can't tell any differences. So what is it?? Thanks

Glenn

I would bet the ride height is different, what front springs do you have, mine is close to yours, but without the plow prep package.

I have ZXGP right front spring and ZJHP left front spring.

Also, I believe only the 5 speed trucks automatically got the 241HD transfer case, so it would make sense to list the HD case for plow prep.

the autos, or at least mine has a 241dhd. i'm guessing they are the same as the regular 241hd except you can put a pto on there. i would assume the difference is in the ride height and the snowplow pkg would generally be a longer spring and shock to compensate for the snowplow. you could call carquest or napa and if they have a shock book they could look at the specs and you would know what the difference is.

That's a good guess! I never even thought of that one! Maybe they don't want damage to the shocks do to over extending. Where do I find my spring numbers?

Found it on my build sheet:

ZJHP = Left front spring
ZXGP = Right front spring
ZGRP = Left rear spring
ZVRP - Right rear spring

DJFS 4850# Front Axle (Dana 60)

Cool, now they need to add the trailer tow, camper special or heavy duty service package to that list, because we have the same springs..... I always wondered why mine sets higher than most.
