Question Overdrive shuts off in the rain

OK, this is twice it's happened, and I'm convinced it's the water...

Just going down the road, the O/D off light comes on, and the truck downshifts.

It's only happened when it's rained pretty hard...

Anyone ever seen this? Or, how about... where do the OD wires go into the tranny? I bet water is getting in down there.

Check the wiring to the tranny temp sensor. Otherwise, down below the steering column there is a bundle of wires that connects in front of a little alcove (something like that). My cruise would go off in the rain until I moved those wires.

Maybe that's a safety feature.

YOU SHOULD NEVER USE C.C. IN THE RAIN.

You mean inside the truck, or outside? I'm guessing you mean outside, because of the rain.. where did you move them to?

UPDATE: I spoke with ATS about something unrelated, but Joel prodded me for what else was going on.. When I told him, he said that some people in the past had wired the TripleLok Commander to the windshield wiper fuse, and that when my wipers would activate in intermittant mode, it would drop the voltage low enough to reset the commander..

One of the things the commander does is when it's first powered up, it cancels O/D.. that's what was causing my problem!

I haven't tested it yet (at work), but it makes sense, since I shut off the commander while driving this morning, and it popped back to life about 15 seconds later... Here I was just thinking it was possessed!

grrrrrrrr...i found the power lead... it's tapped into a dark blue wire in the harness under the knee pad...

I could only find a wiring diagram for a 2001 diesel, and a dark blue wire was an ignition lead...

Anyone know if it was ignition or wipers? it was about an 16 gauge wire... seems kinda small for an ignition wire, but ya know Dodge...

There are two ignition on hot wires, both are dark blue, one is larger than the other.

I'm gonna wait until this weekend when I can do it right, and create a new switched 12V+ circuit from the battery with a relay...

But, on the way home, it wasn't raining at all.. no issues with O/D. This morning, there was dew on the windshield, and when I hit the wipers to clean it, O/D popped off again, so I'm pretty certain that's the problem.

Anyone wanna copy the repair CD until I can get the manuals? I hate not having schematics!
