noob asking questions...

My father is looking to buy a 12 valve for him self. The one he is looking at is a 96 2500 which has 184k miles on the clock. Runs clean looks like it was taken well care of. I have been reading here the past few days. I noticed the KDP (killer dowl pin) is a problem. I would like to know what it is and how do I check it out? Pictures would be helpful since i have to relay info to my father who is out of state. I appreciate the help and i read 3 pages of info and im really excited about buying this truck, sounds like a tank from what has been said here.

And any other thingshe should check out before he buys could you let me know?

also if any one can run carfaxes for free, heres the vin: 1B7KF23C6TJ157345 thanks

The KDP is an alingment pin inside the front gear case witch can vibrate out and ruin your day. TST makes a kit to ensue that it won't fall out. To check to see if it has fallen look under the case and see if there is a crack in it or see if there is oil spuing every where......Goog luck and welcome to the site.

and if the pins no there whats the worst case scenario of what it will cost to fix? or cause later on?

Welcome !
If the pin slips out, it way just fall into the oilpan....or it may do several thousand $ of damage. Click on this BD site

http://bd-power.com/manuals/

Then click on "Show all manuals" and look for KDP. Its very detailed and has lots of pictures.

Get the truck . I promise he'll love it. Just get the KDP tabbed ASAP.

Well it could be a 97

Get it, fix the KDP, and then no worries or regrets.

2wd or 4x4

is it 2wd, or 4x4?

you dont see to many in good condition fro under $12 with that many miles. i wam going to go look at one tomorrow same year but with 166,000 & 4x4 for under $10K. depends on how much you want it. my fist gen has 265K miles and i just turned down, a $7k offer, and a $10K offer with in the last tow weeks. so the worth is up to you.

Bob.

well my father just picked it up today. it is 4x4, he got it for 6k.

i was just on the phone with him, i couldn't get him off the phone he was telling me how much he likes the **** thing.

he never owned a full size truck so this is a suprise to me.

can't wait to go home and give it a whirl.

with this KDP, why hasn't dodge recalled this part. it seems like a simple solution to fix it to begin with.

Recalls only apply to safety problems, the KDP only threatens the safety of your wallet.
The pin can come out at any mileage, don't ignore it, damage is usually beween $1000-$3000. Just buy a TST kit here and don't worry about it> http://www.tstproducts.com/index.asp...PROD&ProdID=64
