Newbie fuel plate question
I have been reading for a while and just decided to post. I slid my plate foward this weekend and it made a HUGE difference. The PO had it slid all the way back because he couldn't keep his foot out of it. I can see why! I just want to get more out of it and was thinking of doing a home grind. Other than grinding it flat, is there anything I need to be aware of? Can I do it with a normal bench grinder? I run 1100* and 32lbs at WOT on the biggest hill around (Oregon, Coast Range) Will EGT's become a problem? Should I just get injectors instead?

its a good practice to add air. Your egts will get hot, much more so if you add injectors, im runnin a stock 35 with a 14 cm housing and with the mods in my sig, and things get toasty pretty hot quickly..

You need a 3K Governor Spring Kit too... Not to add to your tally. But on my Father in laws rig we put in a #10 plate and the GSK, huge difference being able to pull up to 3200...

Another newbie here. I have a 97 w/ auto trans. What are the pros/cons of just sliding the plate forward? I should be able to install my 3k gsk this weekend as well. I "want" just a littlew more power for towing as I dont think the trans can handle much more. Also, what exactly does sliding the afc housing forward do? pros/cons of that as well

lews930 sliding the AFC housing fwd lets the pump fuel more under low boost, as does adjusting the starwheel for less tension on the spring. If you just slide the stock plate fwd you may have EGT problems.
I ground mine to a#10 and slid it 1/2fwd w/AFC full fwd and all I can say is Now I can easily peg the 35lb boost gauge and hit 1200* when before the change had a hard time getting 22lbs and 900*.
Your auto tranny will not love you for this unless it is modified to handle the extra torque.

As mentioned in another thread I have a 4" straight pipe on order. It will go on with the gsk and isspro gauges. If I follow the diagram for different grinds on thid forum how close will I be to the TST plate?

My 2 Cents
When I cut my plate to a #10 I ground it close with a dremel then I used a 1/4 steel rod chucked in a drill press with 600 grite taped then wraped around the 1/4 inch rod. This will make it smooth. Set the plate on a piece of metal and that will make it square as you work it back and forth.
