Where is the lift pump. Is that what the fuel filter is attached to. ?
[/quote]
Yep, on 98-94. Look below fuel filter, slightly above and in front of starter. Has the primer bulb on it, with big suction hose coming out of the fuel preheater, to the left. Oh, it's a ton of fun to replace too. Can't reach from top, can't reach from bottom... Try holding it on the block, while keeping the preheater aligned and not drop the bolts, while getting the threads started w/o cross-threading. Can't wait to do it again...

Re:Lift pump
I just had to replace the lift pump a week ago for leaking around the outer seal to the primer. I had just replaced the main fuel filter and primed the system with the manual prime on the lift pump. All of a sudden, had a steady stream of fuel pouring out onto the driveway. Thought for sure I had not seated the filter cannister properly but instead, found the lift pump to be the source of the leaking as outer seal was bad. Was able to get to the pump and prefilter assy., (both come out together) from the top, even though my reach leaves something to be desired. Once you get the intercooler metal pipe out of the way, and remove the fuel filter cannister, it's not too bad. Just had a slight problem getting the pre-filter and lift pump assy., up all the way to the block as the cam inside the engine was on high end, holding off the pump. Had to bump engine over so the pump push rod would contact the low end of the cam and then the pump went up to the block OK. Like another member stated, holding these 2 parts together without losing one of the bolts or gaskets is a little difficult while trying to re-install. The pump and gaskets ran around $180 from Cummins.
Re:Lift pump
If my memory is correct, I read a post on the other sight were a member had fuel leaking from the pump prime bulb and repaired it with a new o-ring. Worth a try if pump is otherwise ok.

The o-rings should be easy, but if you need a check valve - ????
Mine had been leaking around the primer bulb too, but just barely enough to notice. I got my new one from a local truck shop (through Cummins) for $130 or so, but it's been a few years...
Regards,
Scott
