injector pump
injector pump
hello, I love this site! I just bought my first ctd, it's a '97 ec 5 spd. I took a trip back home to montana to pick it up and only had it 2 days and went to start it in the morning (it was -5* F) and it wouldn't start. Towed it to a dealer on Christmas eve and thawed it out and still nothing. They ran a fuel pressure check and all was good to injection pump, so they think that's the problem. Is this a common problem, and what would make it happen. Truck has 97,000 miles. Thanks for your help.
Re:injector pump
is the fuel shutoff solonoid pulling the lever up?
That would be the first thing I would check. Its located on the side of the injector pump. just try to crank it and see if the lever is pulled up, if it does not then leave your key on and pull it up by hand. It should stay up. And should start.
The lever has to be up for it to run.

Adam

If it is not working then most of the time the culprit is the relay which operates it. The relay is located on the drivers side firewall kind of by the master cylinder. There are two relays located side by side and I can't remember which one operates the fuel shut-down solenoid. Anyway if the relay is bad I hear it can by purchased at Radio Shack for a fraction of the cost Dodge wants. Now if the fuel solenoid is bad your best bet for a decent price will be either Cummins or Piers. They are significantly cheaper than the hefty price Dodge wants (around $400). If you need further testing/diagnostic info for the fuel shut-down solenoid I can break-out my '95 factory service manual and walk you through all the steps. You can also do a search here and I know this topic (fuel shut-down solenoid testing tips, etc) has been beat to death on the TDR site.

PS: Where abouts you from in Montana? I see you are in Othello now, I grew up not to far from there...little ol' town of George.
Re:injector pump
Thanks alot for the info, I'll check it out. I grew up in Fairfield, Mt. I haven't lived here in Othello long, but I've been to George a couple of times. Thanks again for the advice!
