The golf carts mentioned were cushmans, and also the old eagle scooters would run backwards as well. Had a friend with an old Yamaha YZ years ago that would start his bike running backwards, didn't run too well but was amusing..

I remember once a guy on the TDR back in '99 reported the same thing happen to his 12valve/5spd. It's completely logical.
