HELP..Power Steering Gone/Hydroboost Gone??

Hello Guys,

Im new here but I've been researching this issue for awhile and cant seem to find a fix.....

I lose power steering when at idle or when going very slow in parking lot. It is WORSE if you apply break and try and turn the wheels.

I have a 2006 mega cab with 50k on it. I have had the gear box replaced to fix a the leak that was comign form it hoping that would fix my problem but the horrible power steering issue is still there. Next I had the power steering pump replaced since I thought is was worn out or not putting out enough psi to work the power steering and hydroboost. Wrong......problem is still there. I tried bleeding the system to see if there is air in the line but I get zero bubbles in the power steering fluid after turning wheel from lock to lock 15 times.

Can it be the hydroboost?? My breaks seem to work fine.

PLEASE HELP AS I HAVE ALREADY SPENT OVER $500 ON PARTS AND LABOR!!!!

Thanks,
Kevin

The steering gear box/hydraboost issue/steering pump TSB is well known and documented here on the forums.
You say you have paid for parts - so I take it all or most of these repairs have occured post 36K, and the dealer is splitting the cost with you??
My only take on it is to take it back to them and tell them the work they did didnt fix the problem.

I bought thetruck used with 45k on it so there is no warranty/dealer involved.

You say there is a TSB fix on this? Do you know the TSB #?

Thanks,
Kevin

I dont recall the TSB#. I'm not certain that it applies to your model year either, but your problems are exactly the same as those of us who had this issue experienced. If you can find the site that lists TSB's, it was effective for a minimum of model years 2000 through 2003, maybe more. My 03 was fixed under the TSB, post warranty period.

I just looked through the TSB's, and couldnt find what I thought I remembered. I then checked back on my posts from that time frame. It appears that they replaced the steering bax, then the pump. I was at 37K, so they just charged me 100 deductible on the fixes. Apparently no TSB on those.

Do you have bigger tires on the truck? The stock pumps are about only adequate enough to turn stock size tires.

Anybody else out there with this problem. It still exist for me and Im not sure if I should spend the money to have the hydroboost replaced. It still seems like the power steering pump is not putting out enough PSI to turn the wheels and work the brakes since it gets noticebaly worst when I have my foot on the brake....HELP!!

I've had the same problem. 2006 Dodge 3500 4x4, 1 ton dually. 1st encountered problem at 10 months ownership. Work begun under warranty but the problem was never fully resolved. Then dealership closed. Next dealership wouldn't even look at the truck. I spent $2800 replacing parts (all the same ones originally replaced under warranty) and the problem still exists. I've filed a formal complaint with Dodge and am awaiting the outcome. And, btw, the transmission went at 101K miles. No warning. No previous transmission problems. This has been the most disappointing Dodge truck I've owned.
