tps gone south

ok my truck has been "hunting" for gears for a while now its actually starting to get to me, tonight i took my tps off cleaned it and put it back on didnt do anything, took it off again and drilled 1/16 in hole in it and sprayed electronic cleaner in it as ive seen in other forums, still same hunting, took it off and cleaned it again and still same thing, is there another reason my tranny is doing this, its got a brand new trany in it, could i need a new tps all together

try taking the metal things out of the holes and slot them out with a chainsaw file so you can have a little adjustment .rotate it one way and drive it,if it doesnt help rotate it the other way.it cured mine

https://www.dieseltruckresource.com/...&highlight=tps Read this old thread and try cleaning and adjusting first before spending cash on a new one. Goodluck,,,Rick

I just did the procedure suggested in the link by Kandgo last night. HUGE improvement!! A little tricky to get apart but no problems after that. Just check how the return spring is connected BEFORE you take it apart so you know how the spring goes back together.

I cleaned mine with a little rubbing alcohol and a Q-tip and put a little di-electric on the contact area before reassembly.

Sometimes you just have to break down and buy a new one, none of the tricks will work.

I was reading an article in a lubrication magazine a few days ago about the TPS.
They use high temp synthetic silicone grease in the insides.

I read on dodgeram.org that someone used a capacitor to help save one that wouldn't work right before/after clearing. I guess it filtered out the poor signal the TPS was sending. Has anyone ever tried this?

Hi guys. I'm new here. My trans is new with tighter shifting and billet converter. It works fine except for it dropping in and out of lockup and sometimes in and out of OD. At times it will do it every 100 yards down the road at 60mph. Is this what you are calling hunting. I had my transmission guy look at it but when he hooked up his analyizer to take readings while we drove it, it wouldn't act up. He said that there are several different sensers that could cause the problem. On this thread I see three things that potentially cause the problem but no mention of other items. Dirty TPS, Incorrect idle voltage (corrected by slotting holes and rotating TPS), Unharnessing the TPS leads. Are there other items or as I suspect is it one of these three items excluding a bad TPS? Any input would be appreicated. I have a little free time comming up and I hope to get into it. THANKS LOADS

tps

hey i asked alot of the same questins you have when mine was acting up, if you have a new tranny and everything shifts fine except 3-4 and lock up i would almost guarentee its the tps, what to do: get a digital volt meter and test yours at idle it should be around 1.2 to 1.5 volts, mine was around .5 volts when i checked it, adjustd it and now i can tell you everytime its fixin to shift were as before it was a shot in the dark wondering if my converter was going to lock up and glide me into another car or something but if that turns out not to be it just ask as many questions on here as you can, theres some smart people on here

DTT sells the filter in a little kit pretty cheap. Yes it does work. Give them a call.
They also install one on every truck that comes in for a new tranny.
