Re:Fuel Shutdown Solenoid
I have found that the most common solenoid problem is the battery feed to the relay. Chect the +post on the driver side battery and make sure that the brown or blue wire is not corroded. This wire usually sits at the bottom of the bundle and is hard to see.

Mine just went this weekend. $651.00 plus $115.00 in tow charges. The most of the problems I have had in 130,000 miles have been sensor problems. And all of them are expensive.

Piers has this listed in his price list... Don't know what all is included, though. Might be worth it to have one as a spare.
PDR2114981 Fuel shutoff solenoid kit SA-4981-12 $149.00

Re:Fuel Shutdown Solenoid
Ck'ed the wires like you said...No corrosion there..installed the new 70A relay, cranked it four times in a row..I think it did the trick, the owner said it started more times then, then in the last three weeks...
Everyone was happy...Even though I had to work on a Cummins again...
I am JUST kidding...Dont mind working on the Cummins...Pays the same!!!

Re:Fuel Shutdown Solenoid
Last year my shutoff solenoid shorted out and started an engine fire. Luckily it was only the wireing to the solenoid that burnt. I will never allow that to happen again. I've replaced it with a manual shutoff. The only problem I have now is getting into a hurry and forgetting to turn the fuel on. No problem. I can deal with that.

Re:Fuel Shutdown Solenoid
Went here, http://www.fostertruck.com/dodge/starter%20faq.htm and took the advice, ordered the parts, and installed them. My contacts looked just like the picture(worn real thin). All works fine. think i'll hook up a light on the high power side wires, it should only light as the key is back on the cranking position then go off when it runs, if not there is a problem again, at least i'll know not to burn up the solenoid again.

Re:Fuel Shutdown Solenoid
I am totally against replacing parts to hopefully fix a problem, which usually costs more $$$, but find myself doing it again :'(
Here's the problem: engine turns over but does not start/if I turn ignition on and manually pull up on the fuel shut-off solinoid linkage where it holds, it starts when cranked....so i go buy a new fuel shut-off solinoid and same condition exists :'( ...a few months ago when I was having starter problems, in addition to replacing the starter contacts, I replaced both relays located on firewall under rubber seal...what's the next logical part to replace ;D? or better yet the solution , I noticed there is a fuel relay in the engine compartment fuse box-any relation to problem??...any help greatly appreciated (Dodge 2500, 5.9 w/210 Kmiles
