Fuel Filter Problems

As I was driving today, my check engine light came on for the first time in 2 years. I stopped by the Advance Auto that my buddy works at and found that my fuel filter was leaking badly, 3 months after I changed it. I changed it in the parking lot and the truck was running fine...the only thing is the check engine light stayed on. The sensor that hooks to the filter was soaked in the process so I was wondering if that could be the problem. I have it unhooked so it can air dry hoping that will fix it, but I also wanted to hear your opinions. The only other thing that I have done recently was change my oil with a different brand (found some CI-4 for cheap) and added some Lube Control. Oil pressure is fine, batteries are fine, temps are fine... anything else I should check?

Also, are there any better fuel filters out there than Purolator? This is the second time one has leaked on me. Thanks in advance for the help.

Aaron

There was a thread here recently (or maybe another diesel site) about Purolator fuel filters leaking. Guess it isn't all that uncommon.
Sounds like it's time to switch brands...

Yaw that was me . Had 2 of them in a mouth and less than 2000 miles. Will change to fleetguard or fram . Advance auto was where I got mine to. Think that they can't take the pressure.

It's not just Purolator. About 4 years ago I had a Fleetguard that had a split at the bottom boss where the sensor screws into the filter.

Checked the codes and it turned out the alternator was beginning the downward spiral. Replaced that and the light went off. Funny how two unrelated things went wrong at the same time.

I don't use Fram filters but I wonder if they are as bad as what has been reported. Here is a link to a test of the Fram and others, mind you this is an oil filter.http://jeepsunlimited.com/forums/sho...t=352127&pp=20

I use nothing but Fleetguard. I get mine by the case when I go thru Oregon (no sales tax) from Cummins, but Genos prices aren't bad.
