Engine oil question?

I would like to hear what engine oil you're running and possibly why you chose it.
I know Valvoline Blue is Cummins approved.
I have run Valvoline Blue, Chevron Delo and Lucas Magnum. All 15/40.

Thanks in advance, Don

I am running rotella 5-40 full synthetic

I chose it because it gets so darn cold up here in the winter, and i am impressed , at -20 i don't have to wait more than 1-2 seconds for full oil pressure.

Rotella is good and that is what I did use but I use Amsoil 15w-40 and love it.
My whole truck is now oiled with Amsoil products. I have used the Amsoil products in my gasoline products for years but now they have extended drain intervals for diesels as well.

Delo 400 and Baldwin filters. I can get both locally for a reasonable price.

Technically, Rotella T syn is NOT "full" synthetic. This is a Group 3 synthetic which is good but not as good as a true Group 4 synthetic, which does no contain petroleum products.

You can use the search function and have hours of reading about oil, filters, choices, ect.

Cummins recommends Valvoline because they have an arrangement with them. It's about as credible as Pepsi being the best because it is the official soft drink of NASCAR etc., etc.,

I'm not that far from you and I have had good luck with a 50/50 mix of Havoline URSA 15W40 and 10W30. Delo or Delvac would be just as good, it's just that I was able to get the URSA in 10W30 easily. Even not pulgged in at about 20 F it cranks fine and the pressure comes up quickly. If you do go synthetic, I would use Mobil 1 Truck & SUV 5W40 because as the good Doc says, the Rotella is not a true synthetic. I would also switch to a Stratopore or Wix XE filter and do a UOA at 10K miles.

Find me a group 4 synthetic that i can get for less than 20$ a gallon, and not have to drive anywhere to get it though...

I can get the rotella at work for less than 20$ a gallon, makes for about a 70$ oil change , where as before we were spending over 120$ , because the only way we could get 15-40 syn (summer) was in 1L jugs.

Esso XD-3....is a Group 4 syn (0W40). Do you have any Esso/Exxon bulk stations around you?

Living in Alberta, I can buy oil just about anywhere...sometimes I forget it may be harder to get out East.

Check out some Wallys, I understand they have 5 qt. jugs M1 Truck & SUV at $20.47 per. Hard to find, but it surfaces form time to time. Check the more urban stores where it's less likely to be a big seller.

We sell exxon/esso at work , they have the dino XD-3 , but no synthetic. I can get regular old rotella T 15-40 for abouy 9$ a gallon, but this 5-40 lists at 33 or 35$ a gallon.

I have checked a total of 12 different walmarts ( i tend to travel alot on weekends) and none of them had , or even knew what mobil 1 truck and SUV was or looked like...

I'm running Canadian Tire Motomaster 15-40 with donaldson filters. I get the oil in a 20L bucket for 29 cdn. It's CH-4, CI-4 compliant aswell as Cummins CES 20078 but then I change my oil every 5000km..... wondering if this newer API rating will let me change every 10,000km
