You don't mind if I throw up the BS flag do you?
I think you are confusing repairing damage from the KDP with tabbing the KDP.

Theres no need to remove that stuff.

There is no need to remove that stuff for tabbing the KDP, correct. However, I was responding to the OP. Getting his gear case replaced for $150 ain't gonna happen. It is obvious that GCSS didn't read the whole post, and I didn't interpret the post of GCSS correctly.

GCSS DID read the whole post and DID know what the original post was about.
Basically just wanted to put out the info that Jim J. can help prevent KDP carnage
Also, some people DO take off way too many items when working on some things.
No biggie....we all survived the little incident....time to move on.........

You're right, but count your blessings here. When I graduated high school and also had my own lawn care service, this is what I drove: (I never spent more than $100 on any repair)

It's cast material to the best of my knowledge. It would be quite difficult to re-seal the case, but a truley professional welder might be able to I suppose?

It is aluminum and has to be taken off anyway why would you fool around tring to weld it at 25.00 an inch I think it would be cheaper to buy a new one.

quick fix

If your a perfectionist and care about your vehicle then please disregard my comments here. However, I bought a 12 valve and fixed the kdp immediatly. Only it was not there and I too had a cracked case. I needed to drive the truck and didn't have time to pull the gears to replace the case.

So against all of my intuition I filled the crack w/ jb weld, and put everything back together. 15k later it is still holding.
