Dowle Pin got Me

I was driving home last night and it fell out got home looked under the truck and oil was all over the place. Went and got parts this morning and have the whole front end torn down just need to pull the gears. Well im going to go ahead and set my timing now. The pin took a thick piece out of the case and sat there rolling on the gears didnt mess any gears up though thank god.

If you were thinking of an after market cam, now would be the time to get it.

It happened to me about six months ago. a friend was using my truck he calls me and says man you have a bad oil leak. I said I do. turns out it just cracked the timing case next to the pin. Bad thing is the tab I bought was in the mail....

Good luck man

Chris

I was told that my truck was tabbed, Never bothered to check for myself and one day it bit me in the rear. KDP came out and busted the case. Now I have a new case, and every gasket associated is new. I would highly reccomend checking for yourself if the PO says it is tabbed.

But for everyone else, It doesnt take much time to tab it and is way more cost effective .

Jim Jessup did mine and it was like $150 total. He was fast too.
He has a timing cover all cleaned up and ready to go. He will swap out with yours and use yours on the next job. He is fast and neat as a pin. If anyone is in the southern Indiana area and needs a KDP to be killed, or repairs after the fact, call him at 812-873-7618........
Tell him Dave in Kentucky sent you.
Hope I helped someone out today!!!!!
Hammer down!!

$150 to buy the gaskets, pull off the front bumper, A/C condensor, radiator, intercooler, front of engine, injector pump, vacuum pump/power steer pump, pull the cam replace the housing, reassemble and re-time. That is what I call CHEAP labor

You don't mind if I throw up the BS flag do you?

If the front case gets busted can it be welded? It would alot cheaper than buying a new one.

You can put the BS flag down. He is right on that one. You are talking about a guy that helped design these engines, then went across the US training mechanics how to work on them. He replaced my power steering pump on the 99 with a Cummins pump for $250.
His shop is clean enough to eat off the floor. Tools are laid out in perfect order. He set the timing on a 12 valve while telling me about his last fishing trip and had the job done before I even knew what He was doing.

Yes the floors and benches BOTH shine. No bumper removal here..just the fan and belt, balancer, cover , and then secure the pin and reassemble.
Jim is the best there is. I had him soup up my truck too........I drive like fuel is free and get 19 city hwy, with some sense, I get 22, and then on the hwy I get 25-26 MPG.
Jim is the ACE in the Cummings dept.
The Cummings service manuals ???? Jim WROTE them.
It is simply amazing that anyone can even go to him in the first place.
Got to go........................
