I know I'll probably get flamed, but...... I use it in mine with no problems and no complaints. I've used it for years in a variety of vehicles and have been totally satisfied with it.

I think that it is more abrasive. In chevy's it causes havick with plastic intakes on the 3800 and upper intake gasket's on all of the other v engines. Besides what goes bad with the green stuff??

I ran the CAT extended life, same color as the Dexcool, i assume it is a similar synthetic but darker. 250k miles no issues.

Might want to check out the following links. Turns out prestone (and all the other major brands including the wal-mart brand) have a new G-05 "Universal Coolant".

Sounds like pretty good stuff. I'm not knocking Dex-cool. I've used it without any trouble in my vehicles for the last 10 years, including my Dodge truck, but I like the new stuff being compatable with all the others. Makes changing the type of coolant easier, and seems like this new stuff is more "metal" friendly.

Also be advised that all the anti-freeze made in the US comes from the same plant/place. So don't hesitate to buy the Wally world brand. It's the same stuff as all the other major brands for about 2 bucks a gallon cheaper.

There is some good info in the above links, use distilled h20 (can pick up at wal-,art while getting your coolant), and mix exactly 50/50. Don't forget your heat exchanger holds about half of gallon in addition to the block. Kevin

There is a guy with a radio show called the "Car Doctor", in the New York City area it's on Sunday Mornings at 10 AM on 710 (AM) WOR- anyway he seems like a straight shooter- every week it seems this guy bad mouths Dexcool- for a variety of reasons (engine problems). Based on what I've heard him say I'd think twice before I used it. The Car Doctor is heard on stations all over the country- you might want to check him out.

I just found some more info on Dexcool- per the book I read it's big claim to fame is extended life- about FIVE YEARS, however- there's A BIG BUT! It only delivers the 5 year life when used from day one at the factory! When it is added latter on in the trucks life, it does nothing to extend the change period. It coats the coolant system when used from day one- this bennifit can NOT be gained from changing to Dexcool latter in the life of the engine. So says the book.

hey kd460, thanks for the info. In a mix of 50/50, how low of a temerature will the coolant/water mix protect from freezing? Will this mix be safe at 40 below? I thought I needed to mix more antifreeze in to boost it up for colder temps. Thanks, marv.
