97 12 Valve Adjustment

Trying to find out how much should I expect to pay for a valve adjustment on my 97 at the Dodge dealers or any other diesel shop. My truck has 50k and has never seen a valve adjustment, and I do not want to mess anything inside that hood, it is in mint condition and I am not the neetest mechanic around. I am in Delaware, Philadelphia area.

I saw a post from one guy who got a quote of $250. That's theft. I don't think the job is worth more than $75, max.

It's really not a hard job, if you want to tackle it yourself but are nervous I'd be happy to lend a hand. Send me a PM if you want.

Cummins charges $159 down here I belive... maybe it's closer to $120... can't remember off the top of my head, but it was a good $100-125 cheaper than Dodge! LOL!

the local truck service bay in my area wants 200.00 bucks also. my truck is a 96 and the valves have not been adjusted yet. some people you talk to say yea follow the cummins recomendation of every 24,000 miles on the 12 valves but other diesel techs i talk to say it can go much longer if even at all with or without a valve adjustment.

I the first adjustment at 24k is the most important after that the interval can be increased. It should more like 24k, 75k then every 100k thereafter.
