94 runs rough when first start.

I have a 1994 dodge 2500 automatic 12v cummins. When it sets over night it is harder to start and runs rough. If you try to put in gear before it warms up a little it wants to stall. It doesnt matter if cold or not. Seems to help if plug in but still not right. Runs good after it warms up some. I replaced fuel filter so far. As far as i know it hasnt had any performance things done to it. It has 166000 miles on it. I dont know what to do. I dont know much about these pumps i know a little about ve pumps on first gen.

Just a few things to check:
1) Idle speed may be too low.
If you press the accelerator pedal (slightly) when you crank it in the morning and she fires right up, then its a good bet that the idle is too low.

2) Check the fuel return line for cracks.
This is a rubber line that takes unused fuel back to the tank. When the rubber cracks, it can cause a loss of prime when the truck sits for any length of time.

If there are no other signs of issues (Smoking, missing, over-all lack of power, etc), then I'd start with the two listed above.

Hope this helps.

I was thinking air getting into the fuel line and letting it loose prime as well.

In addition to the other things, are you sure your grid heater is working? ( voltage gauge will drop when they are on and lights dim ).

Starting a P-pumped 12Vs it is recommended from the factory to apply a little throttle.
It is written right on the sun visor where they explain how to use the 4x4 system.
They also explain warm up techniques for cold weather.

When you first start it in colder ( say 40 and below ), do you notice your lights dimming and then coming back to normal brightness for a while?
