Engine runs "rough" when first cranked....
Hi guys,
My 2008 Ram 2500 has 45000 miles on it. I unplugged the EGR valve about 2500 miles back. Otherwise totally stock.
There has been 2times this week where I crank the truck, let it idle for 30 or so seconds then shift to reverse. When I begin moving the truck runs roughly. Shift to forward drive and as soon as I get the engine up and going down the street it runs perfectly.
I'm hoping that this stumbling at low rpm is related to the EGR.
What do you guys think???
Thanks
Donald

Does it stumble a couple of times, almost like its gasping for air?
Maybe even give a puff of white smoke?
If so this is common, mine used to do it. Combination of it being cold and the EGR valve opening and closing.
I wouldnt worry about it.

I have not seen any smoke but it's dark when I leave for work....
Gasping for air sounds like a good description.
I hope it's nothing..... I really want to do the deletes, but I bought the truck used and want to put a few more miles on it first. Don't want to delete stuff then find a problem that requires dealer service!
I think that when I hit 50k miles if everything is still good I'm gonna delete.
Thanks
Donald

Its due to the egr bing unplugged. My truck does the exact same thing, and has since the day I unplugged the egr. When my truck does it I just pull over and let it warm up so more. Eventually it will stop trying to use the EGR valve and you will be good to go....on cold mornings I let her warm up for ten minutes becuase of this exact problem. Im sure she can take me driving her cold but I just give her some extra time....its a small price to pay for the gas mileage and dealer expenses saved. Hope you love yours as much as I do mine.
