12v water pump
just got done puting fan bearing , water pump , ac unit , thermostate clutch fan, radiator, idler pulley on my brothers 97 one ton dually 4x4. question can the water pump be installed the wrong way, it bolted up with finger pressure and turned after i torqued it down or are the bolts positioned to keep that from happening. (long day not much sleep, three year old in house has ear infection) just was't paying close attention and don't want to pull it off if i don't have to.. other question was how far does your temp gauge cylce this thing goes from nothing to 190 then back to cold several times when first hitting the hiway. i thought maybe i had air in the system. my 93 doesn't show the cylcing thing.

there should be a weep hole. see what position it is in. don't think you can install wrong. let engine warm up and turn on heater, feel heater hoses if both are hot things are ok. when going from 0 to 190 that is thermostat opening and closing. normal. hope kiddo is better.

On your truck the weep hole should be at about the 4 O'clock position on the right side of the water pump. Look at the bottom picture on this page:

It can only go on one way. The holes are offset so you can't mess it up. I just did mine and looked at it close to make sure also. You're good to go.
As for the temp gauge swing, the first time the gauge climbs to 190 and the thermostat opens it'll swing way back down to cold because the cold water that was stored in the radiator just went into the hot engine. After that it'll still swing pretty good, maybe 30 degrees or so, down to 160 ish.
