Nobody in their right mind has, not without converting the 24 valve to a P-pump.

What he said.....

Stock to stock, the 24v head will flow somewhat better but not enough to be concerned about. And the VE pump is still more reliable than the VP44. If you are talking about the 94 and later 12v pump, Dodge never put a better pump on the CTD than that so you would truly be nuts to swap it out.

I think if I had a spare Cummins layin around I'd drop it in a Ford and not have to deal with all the front end and transmission/transfer case, AC, etc. etc. problems my truck is plagued with.

mine's at about 275k, and still going strong... I wouldn't be concerned at all with mileage under 400k (the mean time to rebuild for the Cummins) sell the '01 engine to someone that needs a 24v, and use the $$ to upgrade your truck...

I think it would be a pretty cool project. However, if I had an extra 5.9 laying around, I'd look for a nice Superduty Lariat with a blown-up 6 litre to put it in. (just to be different.)

Not sure what truck you have (fill out your signature) but if it has a P pump, whatever you do, make sure you retain it if you decide to use the 24v engine.....do NOT attempt to swap in the VP44 and its associated electronic engine management system.....that is really taking a step backwards. And even if you had a 1st gen with the VE, I still think it would be a bad idea to attempt to convert it to a VP44.

You can use the 24v engine, but keep your existing mechanical pump!

At this point, I do agree with torquefan, sell the 24v and use the $$ to freshen up your engine....makes much more sense and would be less work and you will get more bang for the buck that way too.
