12v to 24v swap

Looks like you're new, or almost new, so welcome aboard.
I'm sure its been done, and even into Fords and Chevys. But since the 24-valve engine is fully electronic, you would need to swap out all of the wiring harnesses and the PCM as well as the transmission, if you want an automatic, maybe even the instrument cluster. You would basically need to get a wrecked donor truck to swap everything over from the 24-valve model, to the older truck. That is why the newer 12-valves (95-98) are so popular, because they are fully mechanical engines (there is a PCM but it does not control the engine at all).
With enough skill, motivation, and money it sure is possible. However, given the issues the 24-valve motor has with the 53-blocks, and the weak injector/lift pumps, most people that own a 12-valve want nothing to do with a 24-valve.
