XZT+ & 3 Cylinder High Idle

Anyone know if the 3 cyl high idle will override the xzt+, or will the xzt+ overide the 3 cyl high idle?

This is in regards to COLD startups . . .

Don't know but everytime my XZT+ high idle kicks in first thing in the AM it kills the truck. Kind of pointless and frustrating that no solution has been found by Quad. New VP, plenty of fuel psi and all connections are soldered and good.

high bid -
my xzt+ high idle works just fine so far. are you the only one with this problem, or its it common? if you can't find a solution to the shut off then just pick a tune without the high idle feature.

Brendan -
the 3 cyl high idle is really only good for climate zones with cold winters. it significantly improves warm-up time, but the parameters for it to kick in are pretty specific and the temps must be be pretty darn low. i would much rather have it kick in than the regular high idle, plus the look on neighbors faces are priceless when they think it is about to explode!

Others have posted this issue. I'll probably end up doing this but the HI is nice to have....even in Texas. Kind of lost on where to go from here. Thanks.

The 3 cylinder idle is VERY specific in its parameters. The intake temp must be -9 Celsius or lower, the AIT sensor must be below that as well. The antifreeze temp must be below freezing. There are ways to force the 3 cylinder idle as well, I've seen the schematics on this site.

It does sound like a rod is coming out of the side of the block, but she warms up faster...

well today was cold enough for the factory high idle to kick in. i started it up, and the then it ramped up nice and smooth to high idle. as opposed to the quad high idle which jumps up and down for a bit before settles on a certean rpm.

so i guess that answers my question on which high idle takes priority:
the factory will as long as it kicks in before the quad box.
although, as soon as i touched the break to disengage the high idle - the quad box high idle took over because it saw the truck as sitting idle

also, i noticed earlier in the summer i had left the key turned forward for a long time prior to starting it and as soon as i started it the quad box high idle kicked in because te key was in the 'on' position. the quad bx must have recognized this as being at idle.

that being said, when we have a long 'wait to start' period before we fire it up - the quad box might kick in before the factory high idle.

i'll monitor it this winter . . .

When my xzt+ calls for high idle it does not go to 1200rpm unless the heaters have quit cycling on and off. Don't remember the rpm when the heaters are cycling but I think its just over 1000 rpm. It does vary some in this mode, it could be related to the heaters cycling on and off. I think because the heaters are sucking so much power it affects everything else. When the heaters quit cycling the rpm's climbs to 1200. Mine has never stalled. I'm running the 2005 tune.
