Help with air filter mods.

Recently got a 98 12 valve dually. Gonna put some stacks on it and open up the air. I want to hear that turbo whistle and exhaust. I owned a 92 before this 98 and put on a Napa 2790 BHAF I believe. Is it the same for the 98 or what have guys done to get good performance and also look decent under the hood ? I was happy with my BHAF on the 92. Lets here some ideas. Thanks.

taking the silencer cone/ring out of the intake side side of the turbo. that makes a lot of difference.

That same BHAF will fit the '98.

You can also look into the Amsoil filters as well. They have a few that work well as BHAFs as well. I'm running the EaAU 4091 on mine.Amsoil EaAU filters.

Do a little searching for "silencer ring" here on the forums and you'll find plenty of discussion about it. Basically, the silencer ring is inside the intake side of the turbo and held in place by a snap ring. When you take it out, you get a lot more whistle from the stock turbo.

I don't think that Amsoil has any heat shields. There are plans floating around online to make heat shields, or if you're handy with some tools you can put one together yourself.

Have yall priced the napa 2790 lately. I went in about three weeks ago and it was dang near 80 bucks. I went back with a K&N 4" cone filter only cost $45 at o'reillys

Also does anybody have a simpler template for the heatshield or know how to put the template on here together? I have trouble trying to figure how to put it together

Tape the paper version together, then make a sample heatshield out of cardboard. From there you can tweak it to make it your own.

I found the paper template somewhere, printed it off, taped it together and cut mine out of 2' aluminum roll flashing. It's thin but rigid enough, it's been working ok.
