Sounds to me like you might be a candidate for starter contacts.

Do a search for starter contacts and I'm sure you'll come up with where to find them

I use to have a Toyato turbo diesel that had the same type of starter, it uses the same contacts in the starter. I replaced the contacts on the toyato with some that were a lot bigger in 86 or 87, the toyato was a 85. I had the same problems with my 95 dodge. Along with the starter relay that also would also cause the clicking. I have also seen the brushes worn out on my father old dodge cause no starts.
If you have good batterys, good conections, check the relay, the contacts, finally the brushs. That may not be the problem, but it is a place to start looking. If you have a volt meter perhaps you could check for voltage drops. good luck Jim

I would put money on the starter solenoid contacts. You will probably find one worn completely away and the other will look brand new. If this is the problem, you should get it fixed soon, because this can lead to the starter hanging up in run mode, which can lead to a burned fuel shutoff solenoid. Those are about $225. The contacts are cheap and easy to put in once the starter is removed.

Here's another vote for the starter contacts. I was having the same problem and ordered some of LarryB's starter contacts. I did the job in about 2 hours start to finish this past Monday night. You can see a pic of the old and new contacts in my gallery.

Get the Foster Truck contacts. Even if that is not the main problem, it will help. Unless the batterys are weak or loose, that sounds like its your problem.

the fuel shutdown selenoid hardly ever goes bad 95% of the time the rubber boot is torn on the selenoid letting dust and crime get in and gum it up all they need is a new boot lubed up and put back on. Your problem sounds like your starter contacts and they will evetually get bad enough to make the starter stick and will ruin the selenoid, starter contacts 36.00, new fuel shutdown selenoid around 200.00
