DTR #8 September/October 2010 Thread
Well, I got tied up around the house Saturday morning on a couple of projects and wasn't going to make it away as early as I had planned. Plus, we were meeting with some friends Saturday night, so it wasn't going to be worth the time spent to/from for how long I would have been there.
So how was it? I've read both good and bad reviews over on CompD.

Almost forgot to mention, I finally got my "Truck of the Month" plaque for December of 2008...!!
Thankyou Lary Ellis! I was having a bad day friday, and it actually made me feel good to come home and see that box waiting at my door, FWIW.

Depends on whether your glass is half-full or half-empty...
I enjoyed it, in spite of the cold weather & rain delay postponing most of the eliminations to Sunday.
Saw national E.T. & MPH records broken, along with a few hard parts... and some high pucker-factor rides from temp-related power levels & lack of traction.
Spectator attendance was DISMAL, IMO, and the hotel was pretty nice but had the worst-tasting swanky breakfast buffet I've ever known.
Lots of fast trucks there - Big 3 represented very well... Canadians sure took home a lot of the Bacon!
Saw 3 diesel Camaros, 2 diesel Altereds, Scheid's rail, Bank's funnycar, diesel Corvette, diesel El Camino and 4 or 5 semis.
Our guy got put on the trailer by a girl in a Duramax in the last round.

Me, schoolbus and Kurt went....but that was it as far as I know from anybody related to DTR #8. It was fun, but maybe a little bit dissappointing in some ways. The dyno did not show up.........so that got called off. The sled pull was on this year...but not much participation. Quite a few racers, including me. My best time was 13.75, I just couldn't get my launch to go as quick or smooth as I wanted. Jana and my stepdaughter and a friend of hers came and they cheered me on....and made some videos etc. I got eliminated of course, pretty quick in the ET brackets.
To bad Charlie didn't make this one.....it was not cold or windy like last years event. This one seemed down right hot with no shade and hot concrete underfeet.

Mike, I think he was referring to Crandall and the NADM/ODRA event, not Topeka.
Well after waiting four days for my tie rod ends and the family emergency I find out they ordered the wrong ones and had the right ones in stock the whole time but for another 20.00 each. Needless to say I walked out and called Oreillys and ordered Moog ends for cheaper and they will be here in a couple hours. The Moog ends were cheaper than the Napa ones and have a better warranty!
So was there ever supposed to be a dyno? I never saw it on the flyer and every question that was asked about it on CompD seemed to go unacknowledged. There of course there were reports floating around that some officials has stated on Saturday there never was going to be a dyno, while others said it was broke down somewhere on the road. Just a little odd...
When I started reading Mike's response, I was wondering how it was cold and rainy in Crandall, when it was sunny up here. When I hit the comment about the hotel, it all started to click.

Yeah I think there was supposed to be a dyno but I heard the story that it "broke down" somewhere on the road too. That's all I know.

I looked around for you and your truck, but I just couldn't find you this go around. I could see me in a couple of your videos posted on the "other" forum. Thanks for posting them. My wife took a couple of videos too, I just need to get them downloaded.
Hope you had a great time in Crandall!

North Star Dragway
3236 Memory Ln
Denton, TX 76207
Registration starts at 8:30am and the first truck rolls on the dyno at 9:00.
There will be a 10min MAXIMUM to make three pulls.
The owner of the Dyno will be running all trucks himself with exception of the higher horse power truck owners who wish to run their own trucks, due to and special "switches or gadgets such as pressure boxes or nitrous." Any exceptions to this must be taken up directly with the dyno operator.
All add-ons such as nitrous must be mounted onto or into the truck. No external bottles or such will be allowed.
The 10 minute rule will be STRICTLY enforced. Unloading and loading of new programs between pulls like last year will be done at your own risk. If you try and only get one pull done and run out of time, your other two pulls will be forefitted. Sorry, no exceptions.
If you wish to make runs with and without nitrous to get into two different classes, you must enter your truck twice and make two separate sets of pulls.
The track will be open to race for $5 a race per vehicle.
It WILL cost $10 per person to get in the gate, but remember guys and gals, this is for a good cause.
