What kind of camper do you carry or pull with your CTD?
Re:What kind of camper do you carry or pull with your CTD?
I tow a 96 Jayco 32ft TT with a 14ft slider, loaded for the summer it weighs in at 8,700 lbs. My 93 Ram 250 12valve pulled it pretty good, BUT the 01 24v pulls it fantastic and both get 12mpg loaded.

;D Well, I've just turned 2000 miles on my '03. We've recently bought a 2003 Keystone Cougar model 285 5er, 30' OAL and 7640 empty weight. Fairly lightly loaded, we've gotten 13.5 MPG at a steady 62 MPH, and 30.0 at 67 on the interstate per the computer, which seems quite accurate.

This is right in line with my expectations. I've yet to use full throttle! Ain't retirement grand!

Tow 30 foot with super slide Sand Piper 5ver by Forest River. Bunks and bathroom in the back, Mid kitchen, Front bedroom. A/C, DSI water heater, cieling fan, slide topper awning. Towed great the first time out. Leaving from PA to head to Charlotte N.C. end of the month. Will see how she pulls.

Hi,
I want to thank you guys for replying, It made for some interesting reading. I noticed there are a fair amount of 5th wheels and very large trailers. With that being said, Friday when I was leaving a side job. The Customer and I were watching a neighbor of his backing his fifth wheel in his driveway. He did an excellent job of whipping that thing around to get it back into his driveway.
But, here he has a 1-ton 4x4. Rather than putting the transfer case in to 4-low to back that thing in there once lined up, he simply stood on it, at times spinning the back tires on the pavement. He eventually got it in there. But, that could not have been too good on that automatic. Yet, I bet when it fails, he will say the tranny is junk. Even if it were to be true. Even the best made would suffer in that use.
Using low range would have been 2.72 times easier on the transmission. Would have liked to have made that suggestion to him. But, he seemed very determined and I did not want to be too close if he blew something.
See ya!
