What kind of camper do you carry or pull with your CTD?
Re:What kind of camper do you carry or pull with your CTD?
Hi Terry, JC Whitney sells the Firestone Air Bags. They have the best price that I have seen on them. I just ordered a set myself for my `98. Plus, I used the 15% discount on my catalog. My br2500 has the camper/tow package. Thus, it has the helper springs. My 9' 6" Lance sets nice on the truck and the truck does not look too loaded up. It sits pretty close to level, loaded. But, from what the dealer told me and what I have read, the air bags addition will make the rig ore stable. My Lance is close to 2,700 lbs. wet, so they say. It sits rather high, as well. Now, Lance "recomends" anything over 10' to be used with a duelly. I feel with the air bags, and possibly even a set of helpers, it will feel better. Also, you can go with after market wheels that has just a bit of variance from the OEM offset and the larger tires and that will help. I am running 285s. They are load range D. The are rated for single wheel 3305lbs at 65lbs. Max inflation. p265s, Load range E are rated 3415lbs at 80lbs. Max, inflation. The load range E tires will firm up your ride, as well. Load Range E tires in 285s are very hard to find. As you can see, there is only 110lbs of difference. In your case, I would go with the 265's. Also, go with a stiffer shock, front and rear. Consider the front struts, as well. Oh, with the wheels, the trick is to get ones that do not make the tires stick out TOO far, as to get you a ticket or pound you camper with stones.I am assuming that you are running 16" wheels. My truck has after market wheels on it that the previous owner put on it. They have a bit of offset and the tires stick out just the least bit. Looks like they would have had to, as they barely clear the brake drums in the rear. Good Luck. We lover our Lance. Real comfortable. Oh, also, make sure your trailer has an equalizing hithch on it. Try cranking up the bars a link or two, if you have that already. That will reduce the sway from the trailer. Also, train those critters to stand still while you are transporting them.......See ya!

Have our new 2003 Laramie and a 37' Kountry Star on order. Everything looks as if it will be arriving mid-May. June 1st is our launch date after we christen the rig (braking a bottle of sparkling grape juice on the king-pin).
~Nagi

Thanks for the info! The Ride Rites go in tomorrow. What kind of shocks? Can you go dual shock mounts? The '03 2500 HD has 17" wheels (bigger disc brakes), so I'm looking for OE style 265/70r17-LR-E, or 285/70r17-LR-D. Oh yeah, the llamas lay down to travel! Sway bars anyone for '03 2500?

23' Kit Companion, self contained, towed from Idaho to Alaska (3125 miles, 12 mpg) 14.5K lbs loaded with as much crap as we could stuff into. 03 2500 QC/LB, 5 spd, 4X4, 3.73, warn winch... Pulled nicely. Plenty of power, stout in the whoop-ties, warm, dry and secure when it was -40 deg F. Washed and waxed when we arrived at our new home, she shines up like a new penny. Like a proud father driving it down the road. Everybody looks... What more could we ask for.

Ioriginally ordered my truck back in 1988 to carry an eleven
foot Kayot slide-in camper.

After a couple seasons I replaced the slide-in unit with a thirty-foot Gulfstream travel trailer. We pulled this trailer to many destinations throughout the country for seven years.

Last Fall I traded the 30' Gulfstream for a new eighteen foot Tahoe Transport travel trailer, designed to carry a motorcycle. This little unit weighs 1,000 lbs more than the thirty-footer.

Re:What kind of camper do you carry or pull with your CTD?
Pull a 30' Cherokee TT, bought it new in August of 02, weighs
in at about 7000# partially wet. Crossed a CAT scale that listed the truck and trailer at 13,365# course that was with the 2 shorthairs and my other half in the truck. A couple of RVers told me long ago to weigh the combo and keep the weight slip handy as it may help keep me out of trouble if an authority stops me and starts pokin around looking at GVWs and such. I believe it helped when stopped in Virginia, the trooper was checking temp plates on the trailer and of course checked out the truck too. Showed him the weight slip, said he thought the whole rig would have weighed more, said be careful and have a nice day and left.
Re:What kind of camper do you carry or pull with your CTD?
I pull the rig in my sig. It's a 32' prowler with a super slide at about 7700 pounds. My stock CTD seems to have not problem pulling it at all.
Re:What kind of camper do you carry or pull with your CTD?
I have a 26' Prowler trailer...no clue as to loaded weight. My wife has a horse that she pulls a stockade type trailer around in. I'm currently looking for a car trailer to pull my old Ford 9N or put my '69 Javelin on 8)
