Weight distribution hitch?

I have a 27 foot TT, weighs about 7K, with about 700 tongue weight. Do I really need a weight distribution hitch? When the Rv is on the ball, the truck goes down some, but certainly not to where it's pointing up in the air. And, what about sway control? Again, is it really needed? You can't prevent the wind from reacting to the side of the RV. Does it really keep it tracking better?

I have a 2500 long bed quad cab 4x4.

Without the WD hitch, you will feel like you're on a bucking horse while riding on a rough road. If you're by yourself, no problem. If you have your spouse &/or kids, be prepared for someone to get car sick (BTDT). Likewise, the sway control will keep side winds and passing semi's from blowing you all over the road -- like the tail wagging the dog. Again, Been There Done That. Now I won't pull my TT without both connected and properly adjusted.

I'm not sure if the '05 has a better hitch, but the '99 and '00 that I've had came with a Class IV hitch. It was clearly marked that the maximum hitch weight was 500 lbs with a regular hitch, or 1000 lbs when used with a WD hitch. You may be able to get by without it, but are you prepared for the leagal issues in case of an accident?

Ok, I'm getting the idea I should get one. By doing some surfing, it looks like the Equal-i-zer set-up is a combined package, weight distribution and sway control. And cheaper than most, considering they do both jobs.

Anyone have experience with this brand? It seems tehy have been around a long time. They have a model that fits my weight class.

From the stuff I've seen on RV.net, it's about 2nd or 3rd best. The 1st and 2nd best being about 3-6 times as much as the Equal-i-zer. I'm going to get the Equalizer when I finally scrape up the money to buy the trailer I bought the truck to pull.

I got mine on E-Bay used and it was money well spent! Pulling around town is tolerable but when you get out on the highway the WDH w/ sway control makes it pull much better. I paid $190.00 for my EZLift hitch setup and around $50.00 for the sway control.....

I agree with F. Flack. I've wathced a 1ton dually get pushed around and the trailer was only a 20ft enclosed unit. The WD bars sure make it a much nicer ride. An the event of an accident, showing you have done everthing possible to tow safe might save you some trouble down the road. my 2 cents

Yes get a equalizer hitch. It'll pull the ft down the way its supposed to be.. And use sway controle. Get hitch rated for 2-300 lb MORE then your tongue wt.. If you got 700 lb you need 1000 lb bars. I use a Reese with cam sway controle. Tongue wt on my unit is 960 lb. advertised I have 1200 lb bars.
