Wedge or flatbed

Looking at wedge car haulers. I need to move 3 cars at a time. (personal cars) I found some nice ones but a tad pricey. I noticed some nice flat bed trailers. So which would be better? I would of course need a longer overall trailer to get 3 cars on a flatbed as opposed to a wedge trailer. Any insights, Oh and dont worry, looking to get a used 12V manual 3500 also for this. Not gonna used the 2500 to haul all this weight.

check out ebay, they come up pretty regular. i have a 36' bumper pull that i carry 2 big 4x4 rigs on and it would need to be 42' to haul 3 regular cars. a 36' flatbed goose with some add on drive up the neck ramps may be your best all around deal.

wedges are fine and more maneuverable, but they can also get to dancin' on you w/ heavy crosswinds with all that weight up high.

no first hand experience here, but I've got a few buddies who pull big wedges... I never really hear any complaints out of them.

obviously a flat bed leaves itself open to haul more than just cars... you can make side money hauling equipment, etc.

My local Dodge dealer has two wedges they use with 3500's for three cars or two cars and a truck. Flatbeds usually carry two trucks or two cars or one of each, but almost never three---no room.

The wedge gets 48 feet in a lesser total length from the bumper of your truck to the end of the trailer because a part of it is going above the bed of the truck, also a lot easier to load cars on a wedge (I'm guessing) because you've got the angle going for you already. If you get a flatbed deckover you'll need some long ramps and a long dovetail. Whatever you do don't get a 28' trailer. Long enough to be heavy as hell and too short to put more than 1 car on.

A car like this ona trailer like this is not fun loading or unloading. I've had an RX7 on there too.

The Kaufman 2 car wedges are relatively cheap, and the 3 car wedges are pretty reasonable. But in the 3 car realm I'd go for a BigTex over a Kaufman.

Big Tex Trailers
18AT
6810# empty
$8400

Their trailers are nicely made and have nice sealed wiring and sealed lights.

I just bought a 3 car wedge off Ebay, cause my 2 car flatbed can't make me enough money. Check out Load Trail/Load Max they make light duty 3 car wedge/ 2 axle 14 gvw. So do Kaufman. Keep under 26k and avoid the CDL,DOT,MC etc... my 2 car is 40ft. long overall and my 3 car is 50 ft. Not much differance in towing length but sure nice to have room for the 3rd car.

Staying under 26000 pretty much only avoids CDL... not MC or DOT!

DOT never bothers you with a wedge? A flatbed with one car would never be bothered, one with two cars would be iffy but I can't say I know anyone offhand who have a 3 car wedge along with 4 of their own personal cars to move around. Maybe you should start looking into MC and DOT numbers.... Anyone who hauls commercially is required to have DOT, if you work outside of a 100 mile radius you need MC and a log book. Or at least that is my understanding of it.

You need an MC if you go interstate hauling other people's stuff.

You need to carry your log book if you go outside of 100 mile radius.

DOT # is free, but that's only if you're going interstate also--f you're carrying your own stuff, you only need DOT #, otherwise you need MC and USDOT.

Also in any state that you pickup and deliver within the same state, you need that states authority.

So I actually need a DOT # to carry my own stuff? Yes these actually are our own cars. What is involved in getting a DOT#? What do they ask. Also will I need to stop at the scales?
