Hi,

Please help with what Trailer Tires to buy. I bought a new 31 foot travel Trailer with a tow weight of over 12,000 lbs. On Thursday of last week one of the Mastertrack Tires exploded.

Since then I have not been able to have a clear understanding of what tire to go to.

The Mastertrack tires are ST 225/75/15. I now understand that there is a problem with all Trailer Tires in America.

I pull my trailer with a 2006 Dodge 3500 4dr Diesel. I had some problems with hard bouncing but it seems that Blisten Shocks and EquaFlex on the trailer is helping that. Everything in the closet is falling down on trips and before the Equa-Flex it didn't do that.

Please help with some info about Trailer Tires.

Any 15" tire on a trailer that heavy means trouble. The only fix I know of is to change them for 16" wheels and light truck tires.

Since you bought it new, go back to the dealer and try to get them to change the wheels for 16" which is what it should have had to start with. Maybe they would do it for a reasonable amount. Make sure you get load range E light truck tires and you should have no more tire trouble.

I have had Greenball Transmaster's on my travel trailer (10,000 lb GVWR and about 8500 lbs travel weight with no fluid) for 2-1/2 yrs now with no problem. I have had to replace valve stems (actually, it's at the tire shop right now getting metal valve stems installed) but the tires are still going strong and still look good. They are the same size you have, 225/75-15, load range D. From what I hear Greenball makes some of the better trailer tires around.

I just got my camper ( see sig ) back from the dealer - it has less than 1000 miles on the tires and they were almost bald - apparently, Keystone put some underrated tires on and are now issuing a recall to replace the tires - I got 5 new tires although I haven't looked at the manufacturer yet - it was dark when I got it home..

As Dan239 pointed out, your tires are likely overloaded. 225-75/15 tires are probably rated at 2680 lbs. max. There isn't any cushion for loading beyond that point. My 12K GVWrated 5th wheel puts 2K on the pin so 10K is on the wheels. Divide by 4 and you have 2500 lbs. That's dangerously close to max capacity but I don't have room for 16s or they would be on there. Incidently, on mine the actual weight over the scales is just above 11K.

Titan makes a ST22575R15E rated tire that are very nice and will last a long time. They are a little on the expensive side and you will never find a wheel that can handle the maximum inflation, but they will last and carry the weight.

i have a 29 foot fifth weighing 10000 on the scale just weighed it sunday. 2000 pounds of that weight is on the pin. i bought the trailer (pilgrim) with tires that looked bad, the seller insisted the tires were checked out to be ok. i let him talk me into it and drove off the lot with them. they were "load star" tires, i wouldn't put them on my enemies trailer. ALL FOUR tires seperated in the tread to where you could see the cords. i contacted pilgrim customer service and they were aware of the problem with that manufacturer and gladly bought me 5 new tires of my choice. i put the goodyear trailer tires same size as yours on. When i noticed the seperation issue i only had about 2500 miles on the tires. i now have close to 6000 on the goodyears and am very happy.

I had good performance and service with Maxxis 225/75/15 E rated tires on my 35' Cedar Creek TT (sold and miss it). A dozen 600 mile trips with no problem.
Now, I have a 35.5 Avion 5ver and going to install the same tires. I wish I could install 16" But don't have enough space between the axles.
