The 3rd gen's exhaust systems arent 4" they are 3.5". And I dont see anything wrong with 1200* and pedal left. What you really are looking for is what do you get with NO pedal left. Sometimes the EGT's dont even climb anymore with that extra pedal. I dont think 1200* is anything to worry about on hills. Running around at 1200*-1300* all day and I would say you might want to look into lowering those numbers.

I think the next time my air filter needs to be changed I'll go with a Scotty II. Which brings up another question. My air filter seems to get this oily black film on the air intake side. None of my other vehicles get this. Do you guys running a stock box get this same thing?

My Personal limit is 1,250*F anymore. . .I think looking at 1,300 very often you won't be looking at it very long. My 3rd 24v Cummins is going together now.

Cheers,
Steve J

I think you'll get a different answer from every person on this one. If you REALLY must know then give Cummins a call or look for it on their site. I remember reading somewhere that the Cummins can run all day at 1300* but only a few seconds at 1350*. Supposedly this came from Cummins, too. That also could be wrong.

i just picked mine up in tucson after having a new motor put in. on my way back to Mi i found that removing the edge dropped my egt's drastically (300 degrees)
was towing a 53' 3 axle gooseneck with my 01 1500 gasser on it.
stayed at 65 mph
10 lbs fuel pressure
800-1000 degree egt's on the level
up to 1250 degrees on long uphill grades
18 pounds torque uphill grades
8-10 mpg

Herb, how many miles did you have on the original engine and what happened to cause you to replace it?

Yes. Take about 300* (give or take) off those numbers if your EGT's are read post turbo.
