I've never seen a pallet of sod under a 1000# and with a 2500 ctd ya ain't pullin 26000# ya might, but not fer long. I have a bombed 610 ctd and 23000# gcw is the most I've hauled (checked on CAT scales) and pullin that kind of weight ain't fun it keeps your cheeks tight in the seat as for the CDL must be under 26001. If your staying in the state youll be ok without the DOT but your on your own crossing the state line and if they stop ya you ain't haulin it for work, its your personal sod

Have to disagree... He can pull 30,000 all day long as long as he wants. It would require 14 ply tires that is true, but the truck will be just fine. It is no more safe or unsafe than any truck grossing 30,000. I did it day in and day out. I added the dual wheels for better tire mileage, the suspension on my truck is still stock 2500. The 235 horse Cummins will get it right along with traffic.

Federal law requires the DOT number and if sod is exempt like I think it is, state line does not matter, authority is not necessary for exempt freight. The figures he gave require a CDL. Don't matter who it belongs to on these two subjects. He does need plates to cover the weight, and if the plates are over 26k he will need IFTA if crossing state lines. The local Texas stuff I do not know about, including a fuel permit if he does not have IFTA.

I'm not going to be crossing state lines just making a 650 mile round trip to pick up the sod.
