Stabilizer Question

Went camping this weekend and one of campers ask me what I thought about the stabilizers he had on his slideout corners. Well I don't think it is a good idea and he ask why not. I would be afraid that the trailer could shift and all that weight would be put on slide which it is not designed to support. Was this bad or good advice and what do you think.

Never put supports under a slide. They are designed to carry normal weight. You are exactly right that weight can shift. I have had front jacks sink several times, even when on plates. Had the front drop so low in Newfoundland I had to put boards under the front and jack it back up with a bottle jack enough to get the bed under the kingpin, set it down on the bed of the truck and reblock the jack to raise a bit more until finally getting it high enough to set on the hitch. Supports under my front slides would have been inside the coach making a good end table.

I've heard that if you have your trailer set up permenantly (living in it full time) that you should support the slide out. Camping World sells thems. That being said most trailer manufacturers say not to use them. I would not use them. Slide-outs are designed to hold the normal wieght they need to carry.
