Steering Stabilizer Question

I feel like a bit of a dummy for asking this, but i need a few tips. I was going to replace my steering stabilizer this evening but could not get one end loose. The end closer to the wheel came right out of course, but the end that hooks to the tie rod gave me a fit. The nut came off really easy, but the bar that runs through the tie rod will not come out. I have beat on it pretty good, but it was getting late and i hated to make to much noise. Do i just need to hit it harder or what? I know its a tapered fit, so do i need some sort of puller or what?

sorry for the dumb question, just didnt have any luck with it tonight.

Pickle fork. Hitting it from the stud will not get it out. There are pullers too but a pickle fork is the easiest way....and you still get to swing a hammer

i thought about a pickle fork, but i was thinking the gap between the bottom side of the tie rod and the flat area on the bar that holds the stabilizer was too wide for most pickle forks. Its a larger gap than like a tie rod end for example.

Well if you are replacing with an OEM or one that uses the same type of tapered bolt for that connection just use the one that is in there.

You can also get a pitman arm puller to work. I have also used two hammers to smack both sides of the piece holding the tapered end....for example you would be hitting both sides of the tie rod that surrounds the tapered dampner stud. I dont like doing this because it takes good aim from both hands and usually you hurt yourself or something else if you miss. WEAR SAFETY GLASSES!
