At a swap-meet last weekend, I bought a tow-bar/hitch.

This thing is massive.

The tongue is sort of spring-loaded, with a bunch of mysterious hidden mechanisms, and a cable that terminates at the left side tow point/mount.

Can anyone shed any light on this tow-bar, how it works, maintenance, etc. ??

I assume one would connect a cable to the brake-pedal of the towed vehicle and rout it forward to connect to the cable on the tow-bar; thus, when the weight of the towed vehicle loaded the spring within the hitch, the cable within the hitch would pull the towed vehicles brake pedal, thus applying the brakes; am I right ??

With something like that I wouldn't fool around or speculate - go straight to Remco and ask them, either by phone or email. They're good to deal with.

I have so far been un-successful at finding a REMCO website.


A few months ago, there was a guy in our shop that had a tow-bar between a motor-home and a full-size pick-up; he was showing me the cable running through a conduit, from the front-bumper of the towed unit to the fire-wall, with the cable going through the fire-wall and connecting to a ring attached to the actual brake pedal of the towed unit, such that you could dis-connect the cable from the pedal and drive the towed unit normally.


At the time, I never dreamed that I would own such a unit, so I didn't pay as much attention as I should have.


My reason for buying a tow-bar is that I intend to equip the front of every vehicle we have ---all seven of them--- with mating tow brackets; then, whenever one lays down and won't come home under it's own power, I can simply fetch it home as easily as I would tow a trailer --- no tow bill or outside help involved.

You reminded me.........Remco sold out to a couple of other outfits. I dealt with the shop in Yuma, AZ to have my driveshaft dis-connect, towbar and brakes done and was well pleased with them. I'll look and see if I can find a phone #. I "think" it's SouthWest Driveline, but won't swear to it.
