My 06 Dodge 3500 DRW was licensed for 38k (apportioned) when I was hotshoting, and I had a token trailer plate (KY) on the 40' flatbed gooseneck (GVWR 20K) w/tandem axles and duals, and electric/hydraulic brakes. I ran 48 states, and a lot of the loads were in Florida. I ran very close to max gross most of the time, and never had any problems with DOT. I guess I was just lucky. I had my share of DOT and logbook inspections (Level III), but never a ticket or hassle, and never over gross or axle.
