I think it is all in the driver. Sure, if I was going 65-70 mph, I think I would have been a risk to all. The max speed I ever saw was 50mph. Most of the time I was slowing down for bumps or curves or going up or down hills. On the flats I did go 50mph though. I was passed by every car there was. It is all the driver. The axle according to the dana website was rated for almost 5k more. The tires (g-rated) were rated for the load. The tires on the trailer were just overloaded by about 200 lbs. Everything else was built to spec. Plus airbags and good shocks helped out immensely.

The only hill I had to drop to second was around summit lake canada. That 8% grade was about 10 miles long or so. I did stop 90% through the pull because the temp on the motor was right at the top of the normal line. Let her cool down till the fan kicked off and away I went.

I showed the pic of your truck + trailer to a Colorado State DOT inspector. I thought he was going to fine me for it, he was so .

Pulling 43k lbs.

The trailer has two axles with a 12k lbs. GAWR each. The axles have dual wheels. That means the trailer axles can legally carry 24k lbs. and the 2500's GVWR is 9k lbs., so the legal GCWR is 33k lbs. The trailer can be loaded legaly to about 26k lbs. because the TW on the truck can be 1990 lbs. legally. The unit is illegal by 10k lbs. over weight. Four E rated 265 5 ply tires at 80 psi are good for 12,780 lbs. and four E rated 235 10 ply trailer tires at 80 psi are good for 12,168 lbs. I do not know what the rating for G rated tires happens to be. A good driver with common sense he must be and he was safer in the road overloaded than he was in Iraq. Great job and my hat is off to you.

G-rated is 3750 for the truck rear= 7500lbs rear end of truck, 235/80/16 trailer tires were rated for 3500 lbs tire. 28000 lbs was what I was rated for on tires alone for trailer. I weighed in at 30,5 I think, which would put me 250lbs over weight each tire. I drove at night because temps during the day was in the 90's. A truck driver in Nebraska saw my weight at the steel place. He said he would run it and gave me advice. He said the dexter axles may only be 12k axles, but he wouldnt worry bout them, they are hugely underrated. He was right. He told me about the road heat and that the tires would have probs during the day. Said he would run at night. I did and had no tire leaks. Other than that, he said the way I was set up with the bigger brakes, jake brake, and heavy duty tires to run it. Should not be a problem. He was right about that as well.
