prodigy controller

Just a quick question. I installed a prodigy brake controller, and was wondering do the power lights stay on all the time if it is hooked up and in the saddle? If so, would it drain the battery? Or is it safe to assume you just unplug it each time after use.

It has a delayed shutoff built into it, so no problem on the battery drain..

Colo_River_ram is right. Thought i had the same problem til somebody on here told me the same thing. It shuts down by itself in 5 or 10 minutes.

What they said--you will notice when you get in the truck after it has been sitting for 5-10 minutes they will be off until you step on the brake pedal

A caveat though. If you have any battery issues, and maybe need a jump start or have some other shock to the electrical system in your truck, the lights may stay on all the time. This happened on my 99, and it drained my battery a couple of times. Contacting Tekonsha, I was informed that I should disconnect the Prodigy and reconnect it, so it resets. And if that didn't help, it has a lifetime warranty. The reset worked for me though. Only happened once in about 7 years of ownership.
It will be apparent if you get in the truck in the morning and see the lights on before you touch any controls for the vehicle.
