Prodigy Brake Controller Problem?
Prodigy Brake Controller Problem?
I purchased a Prodigy brake controller this past summer and feel it was a great improvement over other units I have used.
Now that it is getting a little colder out I have noticed a potential problem. With the trailer disconnected and starting a cold engine I get a "09" error message from the controller. The error message coincides with the air intake heaters cycling on and off. When the heaters come on the "09" comes on, when the heaters go off the "09" goes off. Once the engine has warmed and the heaters have ceased operating the error message stops.
The "09" message is supposed to indicate "trailer is connected and Prodigy loses connection to battery ground." Once the engine is warm there are no further error messages. If I connect the trailer the brake controller functions normally.
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance

Re:Prodigy Brake Controller Problem?
Have you checked with Tekonsha? The Prodigy had some software problems after introduction. I believe it was a false ground error reading with Ford trucks in some circumstances, although Tekonsha couldn't say whether it might not show up in other trucks as well. Tekonsha did a software revision (v2.4) and replaced all of their dealer's inventory with the new units containing the new software version.
I would contact Tekonsha tech support. My Prodigy is new and doesn't do this. I had read about the software issue on Tekonsha's website and alerted my dealer to the issue before he installed my new unit. Unless your issue is a wiring problem, you are covered by a limited lifetime warranty.
How has the controller being performing otherwise??
