How'd you discover it, making noise? That looks like kind of a crappy hitch - thin steel at the bolting points.

It's the stock class III that came with my training-wheel equipped truck...

I was carrying a 24' enclosed trailer w/ a lot of weight on the tongue and w/o a load distributing hitch. ~10k lbs total, but a lot up front.

I discovered it just by looking... when I was hooking up the safety chains (plus i had read on this site to check the hitch).

Replaced it with a monster class V...forgot the name brand, but it has 2 2" receivers and provisions for a truck campers rear tie downs.

Though I'd post to remind others to check theirs.

I had that happen to my 97 3500 also. I can't even remember why I looked at it, just got luck I guess.

too much tongue weight eh ? mine did that, welded it up with some gussets took care of it. I run adjustable shocks now too, to take out the heaving up and down motion when towing.

I think it was 94-99. I *think* the 2000 trucks came standard with the 8 bolt receiver....but it may have been 01 - it has been awhile! It was the OEM 6 bolt receivers that were failing - they would all crack in the same place.

I just took the factory hitch off my 2000. It was a 6 bolt mount.
