over under axle conversion.
I bought a new to me 1992 Prowler and it is too low to comfortably pull with my truck in sig. After looking around on the interweb, I think an "axle flip" is the answer, but the Dexter kits don't come with a tie plate having holes for shock mounting. After writing them, they responded with use the old tie plates. My questions are- will the extra hieght put more stress on the shocks at the tie plate? Would the trailer ride terrible without shocks? Most trailers don't have them anyways? Just trying to get some opinions since I haven't made up my mind. I'm thinking of reuseing the tie plates, mount the shocks to plates and reweld the top mounts at about the original angle they started out. Any idea's?
i'm considering the same option and have read somewhere that with the Dexter kit you can keep the original plate on top of the springs keeping the original shock length.
The original plates would be on top with the new kit below the springs.

I usually use the old plates and relocate the upper mounts. This is usually the easiest way.
You could leave the shocks off, but if you decide to run them, the ride in the cab as well as the trailer will be better and may save breaking the springs if you drive on bumpy roads.

Just to be sure you do know that "Flip" the axle is not what you do. These axles are cambered and if actually flipped over would destroy tires and result in poor handling.
The kits are OK but you can get new spring mounts for about $15 and with some prep and careful measurement weld new mounts to the top of the axle and save some money. If you really want the shocks you'le probably have to fabricate the new mounts. Using the old mount if the distance changes as much as the height chages would most likely destroy the shocks.

Yeah, I know it's not a flip of the axles. That's why I referenced the Dexter kit. I have decided to do the spring over and relocate the top mount of the shocks at about the same angle as before. Also, lower the bumpstops just incase that is brought up. Should work out and gain me the clearance I need to not rip the bedsides off the truck. The wife already thinks I spend too much on the mistress. Thanks all.
