Gooseneck adapter
Anyone tow their RV with a gooseneck adapter?
I recently purchased a new Mega Cab and didn't really want to put the rails in my bed. A retractable ball would be a cleaner look.

I've been using one for 6 years and no problem. If I had it to do over though I would get the B&W "5th wheel companion".No rails goes where the gooseneck ball goes when you need to pull a 5th wheel and you put the ball back when you need to pull a gooseneck.

There are some 5vers that if you use the goose neck it will void the warranty. I have seen a handful of 5vers that had frame damage from using the goose neck adapter, worth a phone call to avoid problems. Now I have a few buddies that have them and like them without problems. Good luck.

I've towed them all ways for 25 years. I've done the goose ball and it rubbed the truck bed rails quite often. Too much side to side pivot action into driveways and such.Went to regular 5r hitch and all is well. My brother just put in the B&W unit that drops onto the goose ball and it is really nice. A couple bolts to loosen and 1 pin to pull and it is totally out of the truck. No rails, My next one will be one of these.

If it won't pivot clear on a B&W it won't pivot on the ball either. Both types have extension pieces which will reach out enough. OOPS, wait a second. The B&W attaches to the ball in front of the 5th wheel pivot point. So you would have a bit more clearance with the 5R

Personally, with a short box unless the 5th wheel had short corners, I'd run one of the automatic sliders.
Yeah, it costs more, but one crunched trailer and broken cab window...

Ive towed my Uncle's 5er with the gooseneck adapter many times with my mega. No issues. However, I have a Clark installed (read: I made it) gooseneck set up. It sits 1" forward of the axle instead being as far forward as the standard setups. No issues with cab clearance, but like I said, Im a particular case.
Now he has had gooseneck adapters on all of his 5ers, 3 in the last 15 or so years, no issues with any of em.
If I were to purchase a 5er, that is the route I would go.
