Need Idea's/Input on this!

A friend of mine has a D8 Cat Dozer, the tranny blew up and he found one in Prince George. He is having it shiped up here for 800.00 but he has to return the core, he is driving outside next month and want's to take the core with him and drop it off to save on the return shipping. The core wiegh's in around 2200lbs, he drives a 97' CTD 2500, His truck came with no over load spings just the plain package. Is there a shock out there that he can get to handle the load or should he invest in helper spring's/air bags? He wanted to use my truck because it was set up with the heavy duty trailer/tow package, I GOT A GOOD outta that one. I told him to get a set of overloads and I would put them on for him. What do you hualers think?
Thanks Curt

I think he'll be fine stock as long as he inflates his tires properly and finds a good way to strap down the trans.

Hopefully they will ship the trans on a proper shipping crate and the old one can be attached to this crate. Use the factory tie downs in the box (4) and use ratchet straps to secure in all directions. 3/4 ton will easily handle the load without mods just slow down for serious road conditions and load the unit so some weight is loading the steering axle. Remember drive according to conditions ie; you don't want 2200lbs of yellow iron in the front seat with you and the big'ole Dodge will do the rest faithfully. PK

My slide in camper weigh's in at 2450, plus all the little extras must tack on another couple hundred. I've never had a problem. As previously posted make sure the truck is mechaniclly sound, the tires properly inflated to 80 psi, and drive sensibly. The truck should handle a little trip like that without a problem. Pete

Well, if it was a "friend of mine", I would have let him borrow my truck. Other than that, he'll just have to get by however he can. Send him off with a "good luck sucka"
