I haven't read up on this brake controller but if I get the drift here that the direct link one uses the signal from the ABS, I can't see how it could become anti skid on the trailer as there are no wheel speed sensors. Surely they wouldn't release the trailer brakes in conjunction with the trucks brakes. Did I also get the the OBD2 connector is constantly used by the brake controller? If so what about using a programmer? Or was that just to upload the brake controller.

delmar i got maxbrake and smartbrake mixed up. to early that morning. that is the maxbrake you want. rednax the direct link seems so well thought out there has to be some way they are sensing pressure. i think next week i will call the company and ask

Carl48, have them send you the Towing Guide. I know a lot of us know a lot about towing, but it's a handy reference, good to show to others, and get's a man on the mailing list.

Just installed my Direct Link controller in, very simple to install, 1) connect to brake controller connecter
2) connect to OBDII connecter
3) plug in the hand held remote.
Then all I had to do is start the truck up and press the brake and release,then it started configuring for my truck. The nice thing about it is the hand held remote,mounted it next to the radio, looks like a CB mic and if I want all I have to do is pick up the remote to change any settings. Haven't had a chance to tow anything with it yet but I will let you know.

i called direct link. and they explained how it worked. it uses speed data and changes % braking based on some formulas. in other words, just another piece of junk. the max brake is the only good controller on the market. smartbrake scraped plans for coming back out with a new one

The OBDii port is just a serial connection with a proprietary OBDii connector. You'll see at the brake controller a DB9 connector. Just use a DB9 splitter to split the tow vehicles signal between two devices. Serial protocol doesn't care that there are two connections.
