Logbook info needed
Logbook info needed
During my last DOT stop, I was told I needed a logbook due to mileage. OK no problem, and I know the 7/60 rules and the 34 hour rule, but is there a website that lays it all out in a cute little package for me? Cause im sure im goofing somewhere.

just follow the lines showing where you stopped and how long and you should be fine. also next chance you get ask a dot officer if you are doing it right and usaully they will tell you without bothering you about what you did wrong. i did that once and was told everything was fine.
I am going 165 mile radius, and under 26k. I am not sure on things like lunch, am I off duty or on duty. Also since I have a full time day job and only run 1 day a week, how do I fill it all out. Yuck
You don't need a regular old log book. But you still need to follow the HOS regulations. Just remember how many hours per day you can DRIVE and since you only work 1 day per week then you will be fine. I don't know what that number is (14?).
Under 26000 lbs, you don't need a log book IF YOU return to your home terminal EVERY DAY and IF YOU stay within 150 NAUTICAL miles. 150 nautical miles = 172 miles.
But you need to keep records of your times. I made up this spreadsheet but haven't used it yet, so I don't really know of it will work of if it is legit enough.

Basically something with your signature, date, time, mileage, etc. You might want to sign it every time you update it. I don't recall how many days back you need to carry with you.
DIRECTLY FROM THE FMCSA WEBSITE:
C-2. What is an "air-mile"?
The term "air-mile" is internationally defined as a "nautical mile" which is equivalent to 6,076 feet. Thus, the 100 air-miles are equivalent to 115.08 statute miles, and 150 air-miles are equivalent to 172.6 statute miles.

Hope that helps - sorry I do not know the specifics about the HOS.

The day you make the trip must be filled out as "off duty" up until 15 minutes before you leave (or load), then allow 15 minutes for a pre trip inspection. You must allow 1/2 hour for loading, and another 1/2 hour for unloading. Your meal times can be entered as off duty, but are NOT subtracted from your 14 hour "key on" to "key off" window.
The days you are not driving, You can fill out on 1 sheet with a line through the Off duty portion. At the top under date you would fill in , for example, Aug. 1-6, 2006. Total hours would be filled out as Off duty 24, then 0's in the next 3, and 24 in the total space.
Then you fill out your driving day as required with off duty, sleeper, driving, and on duty not driving hours all figured and laid out. It MUST total 24.
Then for your next 6 days off until you drive, (or however many it is, you once again fill in the dates and fill out the page as off duty. In the remarks section at the bottom, you must fill in with "Off duty @ "insert town name"
You do not have to fill out anything on the pretrip side on any off duty day, but the fields on the front page Name of driver, etc DO have to be filled out.
Oh yeah, buy looseleaf logs. Easier to correct!
