The sad thing about these gizmo's
We all spend a small bundle of coin on our rigs to tow safely....diesel power, clutches, transmissions, tires, air bags, hitches, brake contollers, power enhancements, mirrors, brakes on all axles, lights, bigger trucks for bigger trailers, etc, etc, etc. We make it as safe as we can for everyone around us on the highway when we are coming down the road.
Then the marketers and advertisers get hold of these "towing" safety devices and get them out to the public. We all know they are not a suitable device to use but the general public beleives what the advertisers say.
So now, Edith and Eddy from Notsosmart, Nowhere decide that they want to go on holidays with the old mini van. Low and behold, now they can tow that 30' travel trailer because the RV saleman said "sure your van can tow it, all you need is one of these contraptions"
So there they go on bald tires, massively overwieght and some poor innocent sole gets smoked when this titanic won't stop.

This is why I have no problems reporting a suspect looking tow rig no matter what he is dragging. These things are not safe!!!!

I agree with most everybodies comments about trying to pull to much trailer with to little truck.
But I am inclined to think that that Hitch-Buddy might be a good idea in certain applications.
For example, you have a guy who owns a 2005 Dodge Cummins 2500 with a 9000 GVWR and his truck weighs 7500lbs. That gives him 1500lbs of "legal" capacity to carry passengers, hitch pin weight on his fiver, fuel, luggage, and whatever else in his truck. He is probably going to be technically overweight. Not on the GCWR....but on the GVWR.
The GCWR on the same truck is going to be 21,000 with a 3.73 gear or 23,000 with a 4.10 gear.
If he wants to pull his 10,000lb fiver........and lets say 1/5 of the weight on the trailer is the pin weight.....that is 2000lbs. (on the truck) His truck is technically and legally overweight. I am not saying he can't pull it safely...im just saying.....that technically and legally...according to his GVWR of 9000lbs he is going to be overweight.
With something like that Hitch Buddy....he could pull it from his factory receiver tube and not violate his GCWR..........and wouldn't be putting the pin hitch weight of the 5ver on his truck, therefore would not be violating the GVWR.
Another example............is the guy who owns a FERD Excursion. He wants a fiver....but doesn't want to sell his Excursion and get a pickup. The Hitch-Buddy would work in his situation too.
Just food for thought.

they use them to deliver trailers in tandem. but usually only for commercial applications. the commercial ones are usually two axle job with four tires
