How does a regular cab dually ride?

Hello everyone, I am pretty set on buying a new 3500 regular cab dually with the cummings, six speed, 4.10 rear end, and Laramie package. The problem is that a regular cab dually in Michigan is rare (could not find one in twenty dealerships). For some baseline I did drive a 3500 cummings with the quad cab and short box. I also drove a 3500 cummings with quad cab and dual rear wheels. Both of these trucks rode acceptable to me but I still dont have an idea what the ride is like for the truck I want. If someone out there has what I want could you offer an impression on the ride?

I have a 3500 QC, but I was talking to a guy at the fuel station who had a 99 single cab 3500, and he was saying that the ride was a bit stiffer, more bumpy than the QC, because of the shorter wheel base I would assume.

By the way, dcman27, our trucks have a Cummins engine, not a cummings.

Hope that this helps a little.

What part of Michigan are you in? I live in Leelanau County, the "Little Finger" of the state. Northwest of Traverse City.

Dan,

I have a RC dually, and I like the ride just fine. Both my husband and I test drove a QC and a RC at another dealership, and actually liked the feel of the RC a little bit better. It's really nice under 2500# of feed.

You're right; they're kinda tough to find!

I have a RC dually and it rides fine, sure it's a one-ton truck, so it doesn't ride like the Volvo, but I had a 1 ton Chevy that was much worse. The front suspension (4x2) seems to be much more modern than previous vehicles and I think that helps. I'm in Oke City for a month and the roads here can be very. very bad, the back end bounces pretty good at slow speed on the real bad roads (like I-40!) because it's empty right now, but with a camper or trailer, I expect it will settle nicely. Faster I go (up to a point) the better it rides. There's plenty of storage behind the seat, there are photos on the Dodge website of the cab back storage.

I thought long and hard about a four-door, but we have no kids and I had an extended cab before and almost never used the back seat, except for groceries and junk. I like the looks of the RC, and the dealer here was giving them away, so I bought it, only regret, maybe, is not getting 4x4, but I don't go off-road, so that would be a luxury.

Love that CTD and Allison!

HUH?????

Oh, the ride issue. Yeah, my son has a reg cab 3500 4x4 and I have the quad cab 3500 4x4. His may ride a tad rougher but not so much as one would really notice.

Jim,
I hope the dealer didn't tell you that your truck has an Allison automatic tranmission,,,,,,,,, because unless you got one that was "custom built",,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, it's the new 48RE that Dodge builds. Tha's why we posted the smilies. As far as I know,,, GM is the only one putting an Allison behind their diesel DuraMax right now.

I think it would have been nice to had that as an option though!

Haven't ridden in mine lately have you??

Yes, a regular cab dually (with a five speed) does ride rougher than a quad cab.

I've had the opportunity to drive all three versions: RC, QC and Crew Cab. I prefer the RC. One thing is you have higher towing capabilities.
