Heavy slide in on 3erd gen.

I have a bigfoot 10.11 with slide. 5000lbs wet. On my 2nd gen dually the truck handled fairly well with 5 spring over loads.

My question, I know someone who has a 03 with same camper as mine. when camper is loaded it doesn't even hit the over loads. The 3erd gens must have stronger springs, but his camper sways because it doesn't ride on over loads. I have a 05 1/2 on order and i'm trying to get ready. Is there a thicker bumper a guy could use? Has anyone experenced this and what did you do? thanks

I had a older model chev dooley with the same prob. We tried different thickness of plywood to determine the proper thickness then welded steel shim to overload bump stops. Really stopped the sway problem. Go to RV.NET web and see truck camper forum for more info............JIM

I've heard of some people that bolt a Hockey Puck to the bottom of the spring stop. Works, but wears out pretty fast.
I'd go to a commercial truck spring shop and get the helper springs re-arched so that they hit the stops sooner.

I had installed a 4 leaf helper spring to replace the factory 2 leaf helper on my 2nd gen. to carry my 4100 lb camper. Works great!

Rod, PM me your email and I will send you a pic of what I use on my overloads to stabilize things.

I've been over on the rv.net getting a lot of help.
they seem to think i won't have a problem. hopefully not. will see.

I wonder if i were to take off the factory over load and replace it with a 4 or 5 spring over load. I did this with my 02 and it worked great. I don't know if it would sit down sooner or not.

I'd get rid of the new 05 DRW, buy an older 12v SRW, then get rid of the little tiny camper and buy a toy hauler. In the long run, you'll have more room while camping, and you'll save money to boot.

I don't think my horses would like that toy hauler.

and I know the quads won't mind my horse trailer
